Sinem Yilanci, Women’s Theater Form in Turkey
(This presentation was a part of CIIS Multiversity February 2008.)
My paper focuses on Women’s Theater Form in Turkey which is founded and practiced by a diverse group of women in Turkey. One of the goals of this particular form of Theater is to help and support forming communities and provoke discussions on women’s issues and feminism. It’s a forum which is always open to changes and based on change, actually. It’s a never ending process of searching, learning, and practicing. My goal was to introduce this avant-garde forum to larger audiences.
Sinem presented on this topic at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada at the conference Rooms of Their Own: Women in the Knowledge Economy and Society in May of 2007.
Sinem Yilanci is a 2nd year student of Philosophy and Religion, Women’s Spirituality Master’s program, and received her bachelor’s degree in Istanbul, at Bogazici University in philosophy. Sinem has been a member of Bogazici Drama Club and Bogazici Performing Arts Ensemble for many years and also has been working with Feminist Women Circle and Feminist Theater Group.
